The North Central Builder's Siding Process

With more than 35 years of experience, North Central Builders, Inc. follows a proven, step-by-step process that helps to ensure customer satisfaction. This process includes the following steps:

1 Initial Site Visit

We schedule an appointment with you at your home at no charge.  We give you an honest price from the start. We give you an all-inclusive price; not an upsell on services that should have been included. We won’t mislead you by offering huge discounts on an artificially inflated price.

2 Obtain Permits

Permits must be obtained prior to beginning construction. North Central Builders will obtain all necessary permits.

3 Tear Off and Disposal

The initial step of the construction phase is the tear off of the existing siding. This process is a necessity 99.9% of the time.

4 Repair Damaged Areas

It is best to remove the old siding to inspect and repair, if necessary, any of the damaged sheathings.

5 Housewrap and Tape Seams

After repair, the housewrap is installed on all walls. Proper overlapping and taping to seal according to manufacturer’s specifications. There are a lot of different housewraps available. Most don’t perform very well but meet code requirement (minimum).

The most important function of a housewrap is providing a drainage plan for water while allowing your home to breath. Don’t let rain and wind in, but let water vapor out. The rating on vapor escaping is a perm rating. The higher the value, the better the performance. Tyvek brand housewrap from DuPont ranks far above most others. Most municipalities require pictures or a physical inspection at this point in the process.

There is a new federal law in effect. As of April 22, 2011 all homes built prior to 1978 must be checked for lead. If positive, the correct process/procedures must be used on the project. We are licensed to do this work.

6 Apply Siding

Vinyl Siding
Most major manufacturers belong to an organization called the Vinyl Siding Institute. They have set up the standards for the installation of vinyl sidings and accessories. Based on our years of experience we have added some of our own special techniques which enhance the recommendations of the Vinyl Siding Institute. These are techniques to improve water intrusion/drainage control.

Steel Siding
The steel manufacturers have their individual installation recommendations. These are detailed written specifications. Installation personnel must have the proper tools to ensure steel sidings are installed correctly.

Fiber Cement Siding
The only fiber cement siding we install is James Hardie. This products composition has evolved over several years with the latest version for our climate called HZ5. James Hardie offers installation seminars as well as on site training for installation crews. Our installers have been trained by James Hardie field personnel. They also provide a Best Practices-Installation Guide.

LP SmartSide
Louisianna Pacific also provides training and certification for installation of their products. North Central Builders is certified in their recommendations for installation.

Apex Ultrex Fiberglass
This is a very new product to the siding industry. We have been trained and certified in its application.

Boulder Creek Stone
North Central Builders utilizes Boulder Creek Installers for the application of their products. It is the most expensive siding and the installation outcome depends on a combination of technical and artistic skills that have been developed by their personnel.

7 Remove Debris/Clean Up

Upon project completion North Central Builders will promptly dispose of all work related debris. NCB personnel will do a final clean up to pick up small metal and siding scraps along with misc. nails. If your project is completed during the winter months with snow cover NCB will do a spring clean up to finalize this process.

8 Final Inspection

North Central Builders personnel will perform a final project inspection. The city will then be contacted to do their final inspection and clear their permit. If any items need to be corrected/added/changed they will be dealt with promptly.
